The most extraordinary adventure you will ever have. This is an exclusive signature safari available to just 8 guests.
Join Encompass Africa founder Jonathan Wilson for an intense, challenging, fast-paced and utterly exhilarating experience, exploring the DRC and Mount Kilimanjaro.

This once-in-a-lifetime trip brings together three of the most unforgettable experiences you can have in Africa: trekking to see the mountain gorillas, sleeping on the rim of one of the world’s most active and dangerous volcanoes, and summiting the tallest mountain on the continent, Kilimanjaro. Intense, challenging, fast-paced and utterly exhilarating, this trip is destined to be the greatest adventure you’ll ever have.

Trek to see the famous mountain gorillas in the UNESCO World Heritage wonder that is Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. You’ll then embark on one of Africa’s most exciting and rewarding hiking experiences, climbing to the top of an active volcano, Mount Nyiragongo. You’ll spend the night on this spectacular volcano, marveling at the largest lava lake in the world, smelling the sulphuric steam and being hypnotized by its bubbling, fiery lake. You’ll feel the heat when the wind blows your way… but this will still be the coolest thing you’ll ever do.

Finally, it’s on to Tanzania, ready to take on a seven-day climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, summiting Africa’s highest mountain as dawn breaks.

This is a real “go hard and go fast” expedition. The mission is to get in, get out, and live life to the max. Encompass Africa founder Jonathon Wilson and Encompass Africa guide and photographer Aymar Heyns are taking just 4-8 guests on this epic journey, where good fitness and a good sense of humor are essential. This is not a trip for everyone – this is a life-changing expedition for hardcore adventurers.

DESTINATIONS
RWANDA
The first thing that springs to most people’s minds when thinking of Rwanda is its turbulent political history. But today’s Rwanda is a far cry from the nation it was in the mid-90s: the country has emerged from the shadows and has much to offer visitors, most notably the tracking of endangered mountain gorillas in the lush Virunga National Park, which extends across the peaks and jungle-covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains. Other major tourist attractions include expansive Lake Kivu, ancient Nyungwe Forest with its rich population of primate species, and the game-rich savannah lands of Akagera National Park. Regional flight from Kigali to Kilimanjaro.
VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK : KIBUMBA TENTED CAMP
Situated along the eastern border of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Virunga National Park is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the oldest national parks in Africa and features a biodiverse protected area inhabited by a plethora of weird and wonderful wildlife. It is home to at least a quarter of the world’s endangered mountain gorilla and also the unique Okapi 'zebra-giraffe'. The park stretches over 7500 square kilometres of unspoilt terrain characterised by dense forest, savanna, wetlands, lava fields, deep valleys, volcanoes, and the glaciated peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains. Popular activities include: mountain gorilla trekking, chimpanzee habituation and trekking experiences, guided nature walks through tropical rainforest, and hiking the Nyiragongo volcano to view the world’s largest lava lake.
ARUSHA : NGARE SERO MOUNTAIN LODGE
Arusha is the safari capital of Tanzania located at the foot of Mt. Meru, close to Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro National Parks. From there it’s only a short trip to the Serengeti. Just to the north, on the slopes of Mt. Meru is the Arusha National Park. Built by the Germans as a centre of colonial administration because of the temperate climate, Arusha is a good spot to take a day or two off from your safari. We like to use it as a starting point allowing you a night or two to recover from jetlag and get into the rhythm of local life.
MOUNT KILIMANJARO : MACHAME CAMP
Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in Africa. Straddling the Kenya/Tanzania border, the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro rises up to an impressive 5896 meters above sea level. It is one of the world's highest volcanoes, the highest mountain on the African continent, and the highest free-standing mountain on earth; making it an international destination attracting trekkers and mountaineers from around the globe. Set within the Kilimanjaro National Park, Kilimanjaro emerges from the sprawling plains of Tanzania and boasts dense tropical rainforests, glacial ice fields, moorlands, and mystical moonscapes. Take on the colossal challenge of climbing this majestic mountain, explore the lush forested foothills, soak up the breathtaking views or take a wildlife safari and spot some of Africa’s diverse wildlife including: elephant, buffalo, leopard, duiker, eland, hyrax, blue monkeys and more.
